Welcome To Our 3 Day Beginner Workshop

I am so glad you are joining me for this workshop. It will be a fun filled 3 days of learning and you will be able to proudly leave with your completed chair.

Please ensure you read through this page thoroughly and save to your favorites as you will need to come back to it for reference and to upload an image of your chair.

You will need to bring the following with you

* your project

* padding

* fabric

* finishes (decorative tacks)

Some ideas for a suitable projects would be dining seats, a small occasional/side chair, rocking chair, or an ottoman.

Frames (new or vintage), custom western prints, western fabric, hair on hides, embossed leathers, and additional finishes (decorative tacks, etc) may be available for purchase separately prior to the class start date. Please have your piece torn down to the bare frame, repaired and if required refinished prior to the class and if possible bring the old fabric and stuffing (in an enclosed garbage bag)

You will receive an email with a link to join a dedicated Facebook page where you can get to know the other workshop participants, receive updates and you can ask all your questions re the workshop here. Its important to keep an eye on the activity on this group as it will provide you with important information about the workshop and you will need to post a picture of your chair when its refinished to be assessed before the workshop commences.

UPLOAD A PHOTO OF YOUR PIECE

You will need to either email or upload a photo of your chair to the dedicated workshop Facebook group. The chair at this stage does not need to be torn down or refinished. It's to assess the suitability of the piece for the workshop you have selected. This is mandatory to be able to attend the workshop and needs to be submitted 4 weeks prior to the workshop starting. You will be required to post an image of your chair when its been refinished either via email or in the Facebook group before the workshop commences.

First download the Getting Started In Western Upholstery Workbook as the first few chapters will help you prepare your piece and select your fabrics and materials. This will also be included as a hard copy at the Workshop.

What is included in the class:

The use of upholstery tools, compressors, instruction for the three days, educational information and a deli-style lunch. 

The class will begin a 9am and go until 5pm each day, typically finishing earlier on Sunday. Each day will include a one hour lunch break.

Prior to this western chair upholstery class, students must submit for approval a picture of the project they would like to work on. Choosing the right chair to reupholster will help you complete the project within the allotted time frame (3 days). You will receive an email with a link to submit a photo of your chair. This MUST be submitted 4 weeks prior to the start of the workshop. Failing to submit this will void your position in the workshop and no refund will be issued as per our Cancellation Policy (listed below the pricing plans at bottom of page)
 

Day 1: Arrival and chair set up between 8:30 and 9 am. Introductions and getting started on your project. Develop a plan for what you want to accomplish over the 3-day workshop. Take notes, so you have a reference for future projects when you get home. Become familiar with the process, tools and get started on your project and upholstering. By the end of day one, spring systems/foundations are in place and the seat of your chair is completed. The instruction day ends at 5pm.

Day 2: Work on your project and continue to make progress. The seat and inside back of your piece should be completed or close to completion. 

Day 3: You’ve made good progress. We will be working on outside backs and decorative tacks. You should be finishing up your piece today.
