Hey, I'm Sierra.

I'm so glad you're here! Whether it's restoring a customer's upholstered family heirloom, saving that old chair from being thrown out, or sending upholstered furniture pieces to their new homes across the country, I love giving upholstered furniture new life with a western flair. And, I love teaching and showing you how to do the same! If you've been wanting to create pieces of western-designed upholstered art, come learn how to upholster with me online!

I know you might not be an upholsterer... Maybe you've never even touched the tools used in upholstery. But guess what? I can teach you the skills you'll need to get started in order to create one-of-a-kind works of western furniture art or to bring your old chair back to life again!

Whether you've never upholstered before, are a DIYer, weekend-warrior, are looking to start a side-hustle or even start your own upholstery business, you possess the ability to bring those upholstered pieces back to life with your own personal style and design. The truth is, you could make it happen with a little help and support along the way! That's where the online upholstery membership group, tutorials and weekly trainings come in.

If you’d like to learn to upholster with western fabrics, leather/hair on hides, paint chair frames, restore stain finishes, print fabric, cut fringe, ship furniture, or even learn to market your upholstered pieces in the online space, we cover all of these topics (and more) in the online upholstery membership group!
There are also PDF files to make skills like relief cuts and other regularly used skills easy to reference, upholstery and leather supplier lists, and more!
If you’re brand new to upholstery, there is a Beginner Section to help you get going and avoid overwhelm.
And if you’re looking to start an upholstery side-hustle or business, there’s a Business Section with trainings on how to market you business, working with customers, pricing your work and more.
Together, we can take your worn-out pieces from outdated to the centerpiece of your room!

What members are saying:
“I have followed The Rusted Roan for quite a while.  Sierra’s work and ability to pair fabrics and colors is inspiring.  I have also taken quite a few “in person” upholstery classes in my area; I am a hobby upholsterer.  Sierra is a top notch instructor.  I am a hands on, in person type of learner, however Sierra does a really great job teaching virtually.  Her videos are clear and easy to understand, and the visuals are well done.  She covers the how’s and the why’s.  Her teaching videos show, in detail, the steps needed to complete the process of putting a piece together.  She is also very responsive to questions.  If you are thinking about joining The Rusted Roan’s Upholstery group, I would highly recommend giving it a try. ” – Nancy

“I have just finished reupholstering my second chair, something I would never, ever been brave enough to do before taking classes with Sierra from The Rusted Roan. I would just look at these amazing pieces that Sierra had created and was simply in love, wishing I could do that. When Sierra announced, she was considering starting online classes and doing workshops all I could think of was sign me up, I am doing this!
If you want it bad enough, you will figure out a way. I am so pleased with the instruction we have been receiving and look forward every week to the online classes as you will always learn something, even if it does not currently apply to the chair you are working on.
Thank you, Sierra, for sharing your passion and making this group feel like family!”- Judy

“I have been following your business socials for a few years now and have been in awe of the stunning pieces you create. Talent and an exceptional eye for western styling. Joining the membership group was the best thing I have done. Your knowledge is outstanding, and the tutorial videos have been such a great help for me to learn the ropes. I can’t wait to see just how amazing the membership will be as you evolve. The other members are so supportive, the group chats and seeing peoples pieces they are working is so inspiring. Next will be booking a trip over to the US to attend a workshop, hopefully at the Art of the Cowgirl. Mel from Australia.”
