5 Day Wingback Workshop Series (Location and Dates TBD)

Western Chair Upholstery Class with Sierra @ The Rusted Roan Design Co.

Join Sierra Shores from the Rusted Roan Design Co. for a wingback western chair upholstery workshop. This workshop is has been put together for those with some upholstery skills, looking to expand their knowledge and take on more complex projects. It is limited to 4 students for higher quality instruction.

What is included in the workshop:

The use of upholstery tools, compressors, instruction for the five days, and educational information. The workshop will begin a 9am and go until 5pm each day, typically finishing earlier on the last day. Each day will include a one hour lunch break. Breakfast snacks and lunch are included in this workshop tuition. Lodging is not included.

Prior to this wingback workshop series, students must submit for approval a picture of the project they would like to work on. Choosing the right chair to reupholster will help you complete the project within the allotted time frame (5 days). This workshop is limited to wingback chairs with TIGHT seats (no loose cushions).

Day 1: Arrival and chair set up between 8:30 and 9 am. Introductions and getting started on your project. Develop a plan for what you want to accomplish over the 5-day workshop. Take notes, so you have a reference for future projects when you get home.

Become familiar with the process, tools and get started on your project and upholstering. By the end of day one, spring systems/foundations are in place and the seat of your chair is completed. The instruction day ends at 5pm.

Day 2: Begins at 9am, working on your project and continue to make progress. The inside arms and inside wings of your piece should be completed or close to completion. This day is also spent learning to made relief cuts around posts and rails.

Day 3: Begins at 9am- we will be working on inside backs and wings. Pattern matching inside back/wings.

Day 4: Begins at 9am- we will be working on closing up your piece, working on outside arms and wings.

Day 5: Begins at 9am- we will be working on your outside back, decorative finishes, dust covers and final details.

What the student is responsible for:

Students will be responsible for their chair frame project, padding, fabric, and finishes (decorative nails). Each student will bring their project (this must be approved before the workshop) and their desired fabric to the workshop. Frames (new or vintage), foam, custom western prints, western fabric, hair on hides, embossed leathers, and additional finishes are available for purchase separately from the workshop tuition with prior notification as to what will be needed.

Please have your piece torn down to the bare frame prior to the workshop. You can bring your own tools, or upholstery tools are provided. If any frame repair or painting/staining is to be done to your frame, this should be done before the workshop.

*Workshop cancellations will be refunded up to 60 days prior to the start of the workshop. No refunds will be given for cancellations less than 60 days prior but will be rescheduled for another date/location. You have the option of holding your spot with a 50% deposit or the full amount. Remaining workshop balances are due 30 days prior to the workshop.*
